Prince Charles showed off his vocal skills with a new interactive installation by Flaming Pear at a royal visit to the Asian Music Centre in West London earlier this month. Dubbed the Virtual Guru, the device taught the Prince how to sing a classical Indian melody, or rag, by inviting him to emulate a pre-recorded performance by a teacher, or guru. The device gives real-time visual feedback of the user's voice by displaying a graph of the input pitch, overlaid with the teacher's performance. The aim is to then match your performance as closely as possible with the pre-recorded version. The device went down a storm at the royal visit, attracting widespread UK and international press coverage. |

Following the huge success of 'The Interactive Dive Cage', The Lakes Aquarium at Lake Windermere commissioned us to create a variation on the theme. The new solution required sensitivity to the Victorian surroundings and a host of new creatures to interact with a Nile crocodile, Bull shark and hippopotamus. 'The Virtual Dive Bell' was the result and it was launched on Good Friday 2008. As featured on BBC radio, the Dive Bell takes visitors to another world where they can explore interactive information about the 3 fascinating, lake dwelling creatures on the giant domed 'windows' of the bell. At set intervals the audience stand backs from the interactives to watch as the Bell is lifted from the water for maintenance which prompts an exciting 5 minute adventure, shared by all! |
